The Faust Online Compiler: a Web-Based IDE for the Faust Programming Language

What is it?

Purpose

Provides a "ready to go" platform to work with Faust.
Makes it possible to use most of Faust features directly in a web browser.
Solves the Faust's architecture files dependencies issues as well as the problems related to the use of different system architectures.
Provides an editable catalog of examples making it a pedagogical tool to easily share and use Faust applications.
Opens the way to new developments with Faust.

Online compiler overview

Handling the examples in the catalog

The different files associated to an example (Faust code, screenshot, description, etc.) are stored in different folders on the server.
The catalog is built in function of the elements stored in these folders.
Actions on the catalog elements are done with scripts.
Informations related to an example are saved in a text file.

Current and future works

Offer new services, for example online DSP in javascript : karplus.dsp
Generalize Faust components and libraires with URLs : process = component("http://faust.grame.fr/karplus.dsp") : component("http://ccrma.stanford.edu/zita_rev1.dsp");
Separate the IDE from the online compiler
Develop a simple Web API for the online compiler
Open source the whole system
